Summary

Description
English: Heavy rain keeps lashing Australia’s east coast. Since November 2021, the country has been hit by a series of intense rainfall events associated with the current La Niña event, which have caused major floods on the east coast and beyond. The worst impacted areas are New South Wales and southern Queensland, where numerous communities have been significantly affected: roads have been swept away, private property has been destroyed and numerous people have been forced to evacuate their homes. The Copernicus Emergency Management Service (CEMS) was activated once again to support the local emergency response and mapping of the damage caused, the seventh Rapid Mapping activation for flooding events in Australia since last November. This map, created using data from the latest CEMS activation (EMSR586), focuses on the Richmond area, where 8,473 hectares of land were flooded as of 4 July 2022 at 08:26 UTC. The CEMS Rapid Mapping team will continue to monitor the situation and deliver updated mapping products in the upcoming days.
