From Wikipedia author Bruno Linhares

Wikipedia is written by thousands of volunteers like me who believe in sharing knowledge -- each with a different interest or passion.

To do our work, we rely on an infrastructure that is maintained by a non-profit organization: servers, bandwidth, a small staff, a legal team who protect our independence and more. It's all paid for by Wikipedia readers. Not everyone donates, but each year just enough do. If you can afford it, please pitch in $5, €10, ¥1000 or whatever you can to protect and sustain Wikipedia.

During this year's fundraising campaign, you’ve heard from Susan Hewitt who writes about molluscs, Karthik Nadar, who writes about his home city of Mumbai, India, and others. I’m a transportation engineer and theologian and I write mostly about air transportation and practical theology.

Whatever you’re looking for, someone fascinated with that topic has probably written hundreds of pages for you to read -- all for free. Think of us the next time you look up something like Estonian mythology, the Sigur Rós album Ágætis byrjun, or the Constitution of San Marino. Maybe those aren’t your subjects, but I bet you look up equally fascinating but seldom read articles all the time.

This will only continue to work if we have a platform on which to keep creating and recreating Wikipedia. Join this incredible project by donating today.

Thank you,

Bruno Linhares
